Congressman Russell Addresses Students at Local Schools
Oklahoma City, OK – Yesterday, Congressman Steve Russell (OK-5) addressed students at three local schools.
Congressman Russell visited with students and teachers at Roosevelt Middle School and answered questions from students pertaining to their studies. He spoke about the daily work of a member of Congress, his military career and how persevering in school opened the door for him to obtain scholarships, go to college, enlist in the Army, and serve the people of Oklahoma in Congress.
Students cheered and welcomed Congressman Russell as he entered U.S. Grant High School. He met with three senior/junior cadets next to the high school’s memorial plaque to alumni who served in Vietnam. In the library, students learned about legislation and the committees Russell serves on. They also asked him questions about national security, immigration, and disaster relief.
At the historic Douglass High School, Congressman Russell met with Principal Thomas McNeely and some of the sophomore students. Students learned about Russell’s duties and responsibilities as a member of Congress. He discussed the importance of education and civic engagement with the students.
