Congressman Russell Pushes Back on Dept. of Education Directive
Del City, OK – Congressman Steve Russell (OK-5) issued the following statement in response to the directive from the Department of Education of the Obama Administration to 16,500 public school districts across the country that they must allow trans-gender students access to gender-based facilities, like bathrooms or locker rooms, of their choosing or the schools could face losing federal funding.
“This abuse of power by President Obama will not stand. The President is not allowed to circumvent Congress and the Constitution. This guidance letter to public schools does not hold the force of law and should be shunned by the states. It is a clear attempt to establish the administration’s ideology, and tramples upon local schools around the country through intimidation. Solomon said that righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people. The President seems determined to accelerate reproach. We, in the House of Representatives, will fight this directive, standing firm on the will of the people from whom our government obtains its power through their consent. We are mindful of the serious moral and parental rights that are being trampled. It is the Congress who legislates, not the Executive Branch.”
