ICYMI – Congressman Russell Calls for Discussion not Grandstanding on Firearm Debate
WASHINGTON D.C. — Oklahoma Representative Steve Russell (OK-5) called for serious discussions on guns as House Democrats waged a sit-in on the House floor Wednesday. Russell called the sit-in "nonsense" during a Connect to Congress discussion with FOX 25. The sit-in, led by Georgia Congressman John Lewis, calls for a house discussion and vote on gun violence legislation.
"What's next? Do we take canes out on the House floor and beat each other to death like the 1850s? Let's have a discussion," Russell said.
When asked about making gun purchasing restrictions for those on the no-fly list, Russell said those restrictions already exist.
"98 percent of those on the terror watch list are foreigners. Foreigners cannot buy firearms in the United States," Russell Said.
Russell, a firearms manufacturer, said his experience could help aid the discussion.
