Congressman Steve Russell (R-OK) has been selected to be one of the 2015 members of Congress to host a Member of the British Parliament in the British American Parliamentary Group Project. Shadowing Congressman Russell for the weekend will be MP Susan Jones, a member of the leadership of the Labour Party and Opposition Whip since 2011. Since 1997, members of Congress have been hosting members of British Parliament on an annual visit to acquaint our counterparts overseas with the American political system at all levels of government. This program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.
Congressman Russell spoke about being selected and said, “I was honored to be asked to host MP Susan Jones for the weekend. She is a leading member of the Labour Party, and a great advocate for veterans of the military. I look forward to showing Ms. Jones all Oklahoma has to offer, and I hope that this trip will be very enlightening for her.”
Congressman Russell and MP Jones will be available to the media on Saturday July 25th immediately prior to the American Legion State Convention at 7 p.m. at the Grand Casino Hotel in Shawnee.
