Congressman Russell Announces Nominations for U.S. Service AcademiesDel City, O.K. – Congressman Steve Russell (OK-5) has announced the 2016 U.S. Service Academy candidates nominated from Oklahoma’s Fifth Congressional District for the 2017-2018 academic year. The candidates are: Edmond North High School Blake Herring – U.S. Military Academy (West Point), Air Force Academy Austin Martin – West Point Cierra Anderson – West Point, Air Force Academy, Naval Academy Jake Reynolds – Naval Academy Cameron Hancock – West Point, Naval Academy, Air Force Academy Anthony Macaluso – Air Force Academy Callen Koiner – Air Force Academy Edmond Memorial High School Jonah Weltzheimer - Air Force Academy, Naval Academy Deer Creek High School (Edmond) Ms. Aksah Cherian – West Point John Marshall High School – Oklahoma City Lenerd Leviston – Air Force Academy Putnam City North High School – Oklahoma City Aaron Corona – Air Force Academy, Merchant Marine Academy, Naval Academy Oklahoma School of Science and Math – OSSM (Oklahoma City) Opeyemi Odejimi – West Point Dove Science Academy – Oklahoma City Ana Maria Pasillas – West Point, Naval Academy, Merchant Marine Academy, Air Force Academy Bishop McGuinness Catholic High School – Oklahoma City Alexander Best – Naval Academy Sofia Figueroa – Naval Academy Helen Homola – Air Force Academy Crossings Christian School – Oklahoma City Karson Kosanke – Naval Academy Casady High School – Oklahoma City Sam Harrison – Naval Academy The highly competitive process is weighed concerning SAT/ACT scores, class rank, athletic and extracurricular activities, as well as leadership potential. Each applicant also completes a personal interview with Congressman Russell’s review board which consists of retired service members and Academy graduates: Gen. Bruce Litchfield (ret.), former Commander of the Air Force Sustainment Center at Tinker Staff Sergeant Rusty Dunagan (ret.), Army Mr. Nels Petersen, 1980 Naval Academy graduate Capt. Michelle Axtman - 2009 Air Force Academy graduate Edward "Ted" Perry - 2005 West Point graduate Those who are selected will become eligible for an appointment, and if then selected by an Academy will begin classes in the fall of 2017. Students wishing to be considered for a Congressional nomination for the fall of 2018 may go to Congressman Russell’s official House of Representatives Website (russell.house.gov) to learn the requirements and may apply until July 1 of the year of their 23rd birthday. ### |
