Congressman Steve Russell

Representing the 5th District of Oklahoma

Health Care

The Affordable Care Act, known as Obamacare, will impose at least $500 billion in new taxes on the American people over the next ten years. The law turns over basic health care choices and the doctor-patient relationship to Washington bureaucrats, and it drives up health care costs for individuals and small business owners.  I believe that Oklahomans deserve health care solutions that provide better access to care, lower costs, and patient choice. I will continue to work toward a full repeal of this overreaching government mandate.

WASHINGTON — "Obamacare" has failed Americans all across the nation. But Oklahoma in particular is a case study for its failure and the negative impact on insured individuals. As a state that saw 2017 premiums increase an average of 76 percent and as one of only five states with just one insurer participating in the federal exchange, you could argue that Oklahoma has been hit the hardest by Obama’s failed health care policy. All five of our congressional districts have constituents who are adversely impacted by Obamacare.
