The federal tax system is oppressively complex and contains thousands of pages of statutes, regulations, and rulings. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) estimates that Americans spend 6.1 billion hours per year filling out tax forms. Comprehensive tax reform that simplifies our tax code and combats tax fraud is one of my top priorities. I support proposals which broaden the tax base, simplify the tax code, and lower the current marginal rates. I will fight for solutions that don’t involve tax increases because I believe the ever-climbing national debt is a result of excessive spending, not insufficient taxes. Your money should remain in your hands—where your priorities and values can govern your personal spending.
